First brewed in 1998 to mark Shepherd Neame's tercentenary, this copper-bronze, bottle-conditioned beer is intense yet intricate, hopped three times during brewing. That adds rich resinous notes and spikes of citrus to a moreish strong ale already full of liquorice, Marsala wine, caramel and spicy orange, with a frisson of dark fruit behind it.
