Legal & Transparency
Where can I read the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy?+
You can find them in the app under Profile > Settings (or Help Center)-look for "Terms of Service" (or "Terms of Use") and "Privacy Policy." They're also linked during sign-up and login, and published on restaurantreviews.com.au. We recommend reading both so you understand your rights, your responsibilities, and how we use your data.
What do the Terms of Service cover?+
Our Terms of Service are the contract between you and Restaurant Reviews. They cover: your right to use the app and our services, your responsibilities (e.g. honest reviews, no abuse, following our guidelines), our right to moderate content and suspend accounts when rules are broken, ownership of content (you keep ownership of your reviews; you grant us a licence to use them on the platform), dispute resolution and governing law (the laws of Queensland and Australia), and limitation of our liability. The full document on restaurantreviews.com.au is what applies.
What does the Privacy Policy cover?+
Our Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect (e.g. account details, reviews, location if you allow it, device and usage data), why we collect it, how we use and store it, who we may share it with (e.g. service providers, when required by law), and your rights (e.g. access, correction, deletion, complaint). It also covers cookies and similar technologies where we use them. The policy is written to comply with the Australian Privacy Principles and other applicable law. Read the full text on restaurantreviews.com.au or in the app.
How do you use my personal information?+
We use it to provide and improve our services: to run your account, show your reviews, personalise your experience (e.g. nearby restaurants, recommendations), communicate with you (e.g. support, important updates), keep the platform safe (e.g. fraud and abuse prevention), and comply with the law. We don't sell your personal information to third parties for their marketing. Details are in our Privacy Policy on restaurantreviews.com.au.
Who do you share my data with?+
We may share data with: service providers who help us run the platform (e.g. hosting, analytics), subject to strict confidentiality; restaurants (e.g. your review and public profile as you've chosen); and authorities when required by law or to protect rights and safety. We don't sell your personal information. Our Privacy Policy on restaurantreviews.com.au lists the categories and purposes in more detail.
How long do you keep my data?+
We keep your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide our services and comply with legal obligations. If you delete your account, we remove or anonymise your personal data from active systems within 30 days; some anonymised or aggregated data may be retained for legal, safety, or analytics purposes and will no longer identify you. Specific retention periods are set out in our Privacy Policy on restaurantreviews.com.au.
What are my privacy rights?+
Under Australian and other applicable law, you generally have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; ask us to correct it if it's wrong; ask us to delete it (subject to legal exceptions); and complain to us or to a privacy regulator if you're unhappy. You can request access, correction, or deletion via Profile > Settings > Privacy & Data (or similar) or by contacting us at support@restaurantreviews.com.au. We'll respond within the time required by law (e.g. 30 days for access under the Privacy Act where applicable).
How do I request a copy of my data or delete my account?+
To get a copy of your data: use "Download my data" or "Data export" in Profile > Settings > Privacy & Data if available, or email support@restaurantreviews.com.au and ask for a data export. We'll provide it in a readable format. To delete your account: go to Profile > Settings and use "Delete Account" (or "Privacy & Data" > "Delete My Account"), or contact support. We'll process the deletion in line with our Privacy Policy and confirm when done.
Do you use cookies or similar technologies?+
On our website (restaurantreviews.com.au) and where we use web-based features, we may use cookies and similar technologies to run the site, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings. The app may use similar identifiers (e.g. for analytics) as described in our Privacy Policy. We don't use these to sell your data to third parties.
What is the minimum age to use the app?+
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. This reflects the minimum age required under Australian law for age-restricted social media and similar online services (e.g. the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024). We take reasonable steps to prevent users under 16 from holding accounts and don't knowingly collect personal information from underage users. If you're a parent or guardian and believe your child has signed up without permission, contact us at support@restaurantreviews.com.au.
Who owns the content I post (e.g. reviews and photos)?+
You own the content you create. By posting it on Restaurant Reviews, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, display, store, and distribute it on our platform and in our marketing (e.g. to promote the app), in line with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. We don't claim ownership of your reviews or photos beyond what's needed to run the service. You must not post content that infringes anyone else's rights (e.g. copyright).
What law applies if I have a dispute with Restaurant Reviews?+
Our Terms of Service state that the laws of Queensland and the Commonwealth of Australia apply, and that the courts of Queensland (and, where applicable, Australia) have jurisdiction. As we expand, we may specify that the laws of other Australian states or territories apply for users in those areas. If you're outside Australia, the Terms may still specify Australian law and Queensland courts unless we've agreed otherwise. For consumer users, nothing in our terms excludes your non-excludable rights under the Australian Consumer Law or other applicable consumer protection laws.
How can I make a complaint (e.g. about privacy or service)?+
For most issues, contact us first via the app (Profile > Help Center > Contact Us) or at support@restaurantreviews.com.au. We'll try to resolve the matter. For privacy-specific complaints, you can use the same channels or any privacy contact we list in the Privacy Policy. If you're not satisfied, you may be able to complain to a regulator (e.g. the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner for privacy, or your local consumer authority). Our Terms and Privacy Policy on restaurantreviews.com.au describe our complaints process in more detail.
How will I be notified if you change the Terms or Privacy Policy?+
We'll notify you of significant changes by email, in-app message, or a prominent notice in the app or on restaurantreviews.com.au. We may also show a summary when you next open the app and ask you to accept the updated terms where required. The effective date will be on the updated document. Continued use of the service after the effective date generally means you accept the new terms. We encourage you to review the updated documents when we notify you.
What are my rights as a consumer in Australia?+
Under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), you have rights that can't be excluded: for example, consumer guarantees that services will be provided with due care and skill and that goods (if any) are of acceptable quality. Our Terms don't limit those guarantees. If you have a problem with our service, you can contact us for a remedy (e.g. fix, refund where applicable) and, if we don't resolve it, you may complain to the ACCC or your state/territory consumer agency. Our Support & Help FAQ explains how to contact us.
Does Restaurant Reviews accept liability for my use of the app or content I see?+
Our Terms of Service limit our liability to the extent permitted by law. We're not liable for: user-generated content (e.g. reviews by others), your reliance on that content, or disputes between you and restaurants. We're not liable for indirect, consequential, or special damages, and our total liability is capped as stated in the Terms. These limits don't affect your non-excludable rights under the Australian Consumer Law. The full wording is in the Terms on restaurantreviews.com.au.
Where can I find your business details and legal contact?+
Restaurant Reviews' legal entity name, registered address (in Queensland), and contact details for legal or formal notices are set out in our Terms of Service and/or on restaurantreviews.com.au (e.g. in the footer or "Legal" section). For general support, use the app Help Center or support@restaurantreviews.com.au. For formal legal or regulatory correspondence, use the address or email specified in the Terms.
How transparent are you about moderation and content decisions?+
We aim to be transparent. Our Community Guidelines and Trust & Safety FAQ explain what content we allow, how we moderate, and how ratings work. When we remove your content or restrict your account, we normally notify you and explain the reason where we can. You can appeal via the option in the notice or by contacting support. We don't share detailed internal algorithms, but we do explain the main principles (e.g. recency of reviews, authenticity) in our public FAQs and policies.
What if I don't agree to updated Terms or Privacy Policy?+
If we make a significant change, we'll notify you and, where required, ask you to accept the new terms. If you don't agree, you can stop using the service and close your account before the effective date; your use of the service after the effective date is treated as acceptance. If you've already accepted and later decide you don't agree, you may close your account and request deletion of your data as set out in our Privacy Policy. We don't offer a way to keep using the service under the old terms after they've been superseded.
Where can I see previous versions of the Terms or Privacy Policy?+
We keep archived versions of our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for reference. You can find links to previous versions (e.g. by date) in the Legal or Help section on restaurantreviews.com.au, or request a copy by contacting support@restaurantreviews.com.au. When we notify you of a change, we'll indicate the effective date so you can match it to the correct version.
Do you have a Cookie Policy?+
Our use of cookies and similar technologies is described in our Privacy Policy on restaurantreviews.com.au. If we publish a separate Cookie Policy (e.g. for the website), it will be linked from the Privacy Policy and the footer of restaurantreviews.com.au. You can control cookies through your browser settings; the policy will explain what we use and how to manage your preferences.
Where is my data stored? Do you transfer it overseas?+
We store and process data in Australia where possible. Some of our service providers (e.g. hosting or analytics) may be located overseas, so your data may be transferred to and stored in countries such as the United States or others where those providers operate. We take steps to ensure such transfers are subject to appropriate safeguards (e.g. contractual clauses or laws that protect your information). Our Privacy Policy on restaurantreviews.com.au describes where we and our providers operate and how we protect your data when it's transferred.
How do you protect my personal information?+
We use technical and organisational measures to protect your data: for example, encryption in transit and at rest where appropriate, access controls, and regular security assessments. We require our service providers to protect your information under strict agreements. We don't sell your personal information. No system is completely secure; we'll notify you and the relevant regulator where required if a serious breach affects your data. Details are in our Privacy Policy on restaurantreviews.com.au.
Can I opt out of marketing or certain data collection?+
Yes. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in each email, and manage push notifications in Profile > Settings > Notifications. You can also limit or revoke location permission in your device settings if you prefer not to share location. Some data (e.g. essential account and security data) is needed to provide the service and can't be opted out of. Our Privacy Policy on restaurantreviews.com.au explains what we collect and how to exercise your choices.
Do you sell my personal information? How does Restaurant Reviews make money?+
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their marketing or advertising. Our business model may include advertising on the platform, partnerships with restaurants, or other services; when we use your data for advertising (e.g. to show relevant offers), we do so in line with our Privacy Policy and your choices. We're transparent about this in our Privacy Policy on restaurantreviews.com.au. If our model changes in a way that affects your data, we'll update the policy and notify you where required.
Do restaurants pay to be listed or to improve their ranking?+
We're transparent about how listings and rankings work. Restaurants do not pay to be included in our search results or to improve their rating. Our rating is based on genuine user reviews and our published criteria (e.g. recency, authenticity). If we ever introduce paid features (e.g. featured or promoted placements), they will be clearly labelled so you can tell them apart from organic results. Our Trust & Safety FAQ and Community Guidelines explain how we keep reviews fair and unbiased.
Are featured or sponsored listings clearly marked?+
Yes. Any paid or sponsored content (e.g. featured restaurants, promoted placements) will be clearly labelled so you can distinguish it from unpaid, organic results. We're committed to transparency so you can make informed decisions. If you're unsure whether something is sponsored, look for the label we use (e.g. "Sponsored," "Featured," or "Ad") or check our Help or Legal pages on restaurantreviews.com.au for current labelling practices.
Can I use the app for business or commercial purposes?+
Our Terms of Service are aimed at individual users who use the app for personal, non-commercial use (e.g. finding restaurants and writing reviews). If you want to use the app or our content for business or commercial purposes (e.g. scraping reviews, reselling data, or representing a business), you need to comply with our Terms and any separate commercial or partner agreements we may offer. Unauthorised commercial use may result in account suspension. For business enquiries, contact us via restaurantreviews.com.au.
Can I use content from the app (e.g. reviews or photos) on my own website or elsewhere?+
Content on Restaurant Reviews (including other users' reviews and photos) is protected by copyright and our Terms of Service. You may not copy, scrape, or reuse it elsewhere without permission. Your own reviews and photos remain yours, but you've granted us a licence to use them on our platform; if you want to republish your own content elsewhere, that's generally fine, but you must not violate anyone else's rights (e.g. a restaurant's trademark). For licensing enquiries (e.g. media or partners), contact us via restaurantreviews.com.au.
What happens to my content if my account is terminated?+
If your account is suspended or terminated (by you or by us), we may retain your content as needed for legal, safety, or operational reasons (e.g. to enforce our policies, resolve disputes, or comply with law). Where we're not required to retain it, we may delete or anonymise it in line with our Privacy Policy. You can request deletion of your data when you close your account. Our Terms of Service on restaurantreviews.com.au set out the effect of termination in more detail.
How do you handle legal requests (e.g. subpoenas or court orders)?+
We may be required by law to disclose information to authorities (e.g. in response to a subpoena, court order, or valid legal process). When we receive such a request, we review it for validity and only disclose what we're legally required to. Where the law allows, we may notify you before disclosing your information. Our Privacy Policy on restaurantreviews.com.au describes how we handle legal requests and when we may disclose data.
Do you comply with GDPR or other international privacy laws?+
We comply with the Australian Privacy Principles and Australian law. If you're in the European Union, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with specific privacy laws (e.g. GDPR), we may apply additional measures where we offer the service to you, as described in our Privacy Policy. You can contact us at support@restaurantreviews.com.au to ask about your rights in your country. The Privacy Policy on restaurantreviews.com.au is updated to reflect the regions we serve and the safeguards we use.
How do you verify that users are 16 or over?+
We take reasonable steps to prevent users under 16 from creating accounts, as required by Australian law, including the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 (Cth) and other applicable regulations. In most cases, this involves asking for your date of birth at sign-up or using proportionate age-assurance measures that are appropriate to the level of risk. We will only request government-issued identification where reasonably necessary to meet our legal obligations, and we will provide alternative verification methods wherever practicable. We collect and use only the minimum information reasonably required for age verification purposes, and we securely delete or de-identify that information once it is no longer needed, in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law.
Is there an arbitration or dispute resolution process?+
Our Terms of Service on restaurantreviews.com.au set out how disputes are resolved. We encourage you to contact us first (e.g. via the Help Center or support@restaurantreviews.com.au). If we can't resolve the matter, the Terms may require that disputes be resolved by arbitration or in the courts of Queensland (or as otherwise specified). Consumer users in Australia retain their right to use the courts and any non-excludable rights under the Australian Consumer Law. The full process is in the Terms.
What data do you collect from my device (e.g. contacts, camera)?+
We only collect what we need to provide the service. For example: we may access your device's location (if you allow it) to show nearby restaurants; we may access the camera or photo library if you upload photos to a review. We don't access your contacts, SMS, or other apps unless we've asked for permission and explained why. Our Privacy Policy on restaurantreviews.com.au lists the categories of data we collect and the legal basis (e.g. consent, legitimate interest) where applicable.
Who do I contact for privacy or legal enquiries?+
For privacy requests (e.g. access, correction, deletion, complaint), use Profile > Settings > Privacy & Data or email support@restaurantreviews.com.au. For formal legal or regulatory correspondence (e.g. subpoenas, legal notices), use the address or email specified in our Terms of Service on restaurantreviews.com.au. Our Privacy Policy also lists a privacy contact if we designate one. We'll respond within the time required by law.
What happens if a restaurant uses my photo from the app without my permission?+
You own the photos you upload. By posting on Restaurant Reviews, you grant us a licence to display them on our platform, but this does not extend to third parties using them without permission. If you discover that a restaurant or any other party is using your photo outside our platform without your consent, you can contact our support team at support@restaurantreviews.com.au. We can provide guidance and may assist in requesting the removal of your content from unauthorised use.
Can I use information or reviews from Restaurant Reviews for my personal blog or social media content?+
Your own reviews and photos are yours and you may generally republish them on your personal blog or social media. However, you may not copy, scrape, or republish other users' reviews or photos without their permission, as their content is protected by copyright and our Terms of Service. If you want to reference or quote another user's review, we recommend linking to the review on our platform rather than copying it directly. For media or commercial use enquiries, contact us via restaurantreviews.com.au.
